How to Prep Your Home for Spray Foam Insulation Day

4 June 2025

Custom Insulation Company, Inc - Spray Foam

So you’ve made the smart decision to insulate your home with spray foam—great choice! Whether you're aiming to boost energy efficiency, eliminate drafts, or reduce noise, spray foam is one of the best long-term investments you can make in your home.

But before installation day arrives, there are a few key things you’ll need to do to get your home ready. At Custom Insulation Company, Inc., we want your install process to be smooth and successful. Here’s how to prepare for spray foam insulation day like a pro.

1. Clear the Work Area

Our technicians need full access to the areas being insulated—whether that’s the attic, basement, crawl space, or walls. Be sure to:

  • Remove boxes, storage bins, and any furniture from the work zone
  • Clear at least 3 feet of space around the area
  • If applicable, cover large or immovable items with plastic sheeting
  • The more room we have to move and work, the faster and cleaner the process will be.

2. Secure Pets and Children

Spray foam installation involves specialized equipment, noise, and temporary exposure to strong odors. For their safety and comfort:

  • Keep pets and small children away from the job site
  • Plan for them to stay with a friend, family member, or in another part of the home

In some cases, it’s best for everyone to vacate the home for a few hours post-install (we’ll advise based on your project)

3. Discuss Ventilation with Your Installer

  • While modern spray foam products are safe when cured, it’s important to ensure proper ventilation during and after the application. We’ll let you know:
  • Whether temporary vacating is required
  • How long the cure time will be
  • What steps were taking to keep the air clean and safe
  • We use industry-standard practices to protect your health and ensure a clean install.

4. Protect Electrical & Plumbing Access

If your attic or walls house electrical wires or plumbing, let us know in advance. We may need to:

  • Leave access panels open
  • Work around sensitive wiring or fixtures
  • Coordinate with other contractors (if your project involves renovations)
  • Good communication ensures we insulate efficiently without compromising access to key systems.

5. Ask Questions Before We Arrive

Not sure if you need to remove drywall? Wondering about cleanup or timelines? Give us a call. At Custom Insulation Company, Inc., we believe in transparency. We’ll walk you through:

  • What materials we’ll use
  • What areas will be sealed or taped off
  • What you can expect during and after installation
  • What You Can Expect From Us

Our team will arrive on time, prepared, and ready to deliver high-quality results. We take extra care to:

Protect your home and surfaces

Apply spray foam cleanly and evenly

Clean up our workspace before we leave

With decades of experience, we’re here to make sure your investment in spray foam pays off for years to come.
